Wolfhounds DIII @ Cincinnati Kelts

This past weekend our DIII side travelled over to Germania Park to play the Kelts. At stake was first place in the Southern League and home field advantage in the early play-off rounds. Despite terrific intensity all week at practice and throughout the game, we did NOT come away with a victory. The final on the day was Kelts 28, Wolfhounds 12.

It was an exciting and fast paced match. But one marred by our own mistakes. Our forwards maintained terrific pressure on our opposition all day, even putting in a late first half try by Brendan Coleman. Yet every time we mounted a sustained attack, we turned the ball over through errant passes and poorly placed kicks. The Kelts were quick to capitalize on them, utilizing long counter attacks to reverse the field position. It was through a very strong defense alone that prevented a much higher score, as we forced them to take penalty kicks for points rather than push for tries. Our lone second-half score came on an unconverted try by Super Dave who sliced through their back line from his weak side wing position.

We have a few things to work on this week. The most important of which is getting guys healthy and ready for this upcoming weekend. We face Louisville in a MUST WIN match. A win on Saturday puts us in the first round of the playoffs. Come out this weekend for our 1:00 PM kickoff at Brimelow Fields.

Cheers!
